The drama is one of the highest-rated shows on IMDb.

Micheal Ward realized his character had a completely different mission in the course of the “Top Boy” movie. The insight led to the acceptance of the character's death.

Only after the death of Jamie in “Top Boy” the actor understood his hero represented the collective image of all black guys. In a talk with GQ Heroes, Micheal said it terrifies him that black people pass away in tragic accidents every day. Knowing this made Micheal look at the movie action from another angle.

“But then when you take in storytelling and art, it was actually quite genius. A lot of young black guys are dying today, so Jamie represents that. And Jamie had a lot of love to give, and he also received a lot of love from the viewers. So I feel like him going shows people, anything can happen at any time. When you look at it that deep way, I feel like it resonates even more because he received a lot of love.”
